Summer weights and conditioning are essential for athletes who want to improve their performance and compete at a higher level. Consistently showing up builds strength, speed, endurance, and mental toughness while helping athletes stay prepared for the demands of their sport. The athletes who commit during the summer often gain a competitive edge because improvement happens through hard work when no one is watching. Attendance also shows dedication to teammates and coaches, creating accountability and a stronger team culture.

Team Camp Dates: Summer cross country camp – July 15th-19th (session 1) in Joplin, MO. Anyone interested in coming can register at swmorunningcamp.com. Please let us know if you’ve registered so we have an accurate count. We will try to provide transportation for all campers.

We believe that Cross Country is a summer sport that competes in the fall. While summer workouts are
“optional,” it is extremely encouraged that you participate in order to prepare your body mentally and physically for the demands of racing at the 5K (3.1 mile) distance once the season begins. We also believe that team unity is strengthened and new friendships will emerge over these summer months as we work and sweat together. Summer running will meet Monday-Friday mornings at the following time and locations:
All sessions begin at 7:00 A.M. sharp. After we run we will do some strength exercises and should be done between 8:30-8:45. Please bring your own water bottle, towel, and a stopwatch or GPS watch. Watches are required equipment to participate in the summer running program and the cross country season. Please ask Coach Banks or Coach Thom if you need input on which kind to get.
Mondays:
Meet at Corby Pond.
Tuesdays:
Meet in the parking lot of the baseball/softball facility at
Missouri Western.
Wednesdays:
Meet in the parking lot by the tennis courts at Central High School. Folks can also stick around for ultimate frisbee from 8:45-9:15.
Thursdays:
Meet at the Remington Nature Center by the river.
Fridays:
Meet at Bode Ice Arena.
